WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC

Chiropractic is an evidence-based healthcare profession focused on the diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal problems, particularly those affecting the spine, joints and nervous system.

Chiropractors complete extensive university training and must hold a recognised qualification such as an MChiro, MSc or Doctor of Chiropractic (DC). In the UK the profession is regulated by the General Chiropractic Council, which sets standards of practice and professional conduct.

The word chiropractic comes from the Greek words cheir (hand) and praxis (action), meaning “done by hand.”Chiropractic care focuses on gentle, hands-on techniques designed to support healthy movement and function without the use of drugs or surgery.

People often visit a chiropractor with musculoskeletal symptoms such as back pain, neck pain, joint stiffness or postural strain.

Treatment may include hands-on chiropractic techniques along with advice on posture, movement and exercises to support long-term wellbeing.

Chiropractic care can be suitable for people of many ages, and treatment is always tailored to the individual.

Alternatively, you can find further information by visiting the websites of the General Chiropractic Council or the British Chiropractic Association

Eric Pahl Doctor of Chiropractic

Dr Eric Pahl – Doctor of Chiropractic

(Clinic Founder)

St Andrew Chiropractic Clinic, based in Wells is owned and run by Dr Eric Pahl, Doctor of Chiropractic, who has had a lifelong connection with the profession. Growing up in Los Angeles, Eric began seeing his family chiropractor from an early age. He credits the care he received with helping him stay injury-free through many active years of cycling, skiing, rock climbing and running. The warm, personal approach of his own chiropractors inspired him to pursue the same path and help others experience the benefits of chiropractic care.

Eric is known for his gentle, non-invasive approach to chiropractic care and has built a trusted reputation with patients in Wells and the surrounding area since establishing the clinic.

After completing his undergraduate studies (BA) in California, Spain and France, Eric studied chiropractic at Cleveland Chiropractic College in Los Angeles and the Anglo-European Chiropractic College (AECC), graduating in 2013. He later completed his

Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) training through the Royal College of Chiropractors.

Eric spent several years working in clinics in Bath and Brecon before founding St Andrew Chiropractic Clinic in Wells, Somerset.

His work is grounded in Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT) — a refined, precise method that uses light pressure and supportive blocking to encourage the body's own balance and movement. Eric integrates SOT with cranial techniques (also known as craniopathy), gentle hands-on adjustments and functional assessment for muscular and postural concerns. He also has postgraduate training in pregnancy and paediatric chiropractic.

Eric's refined, low-force techniques are precise and highly effective — a careful, considered approach that works as well for active patients and those in regular training as it does for professionals managing the strain of desk-bound work, parents, pregnant women, children and older adults. Patients come to him with sports-related strain, postural fatigue, and the wear and tear of daily life. Whatever your starting point, the treatment is shaped around you.

Eric is registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) and the Royal College of Chiropractors (RCC). He is also a member of the British Chiropractic Association (BCA) and Sacro-Occipital Technique Organisation (SOTO) Europe.

Outside the clinic, Eric enjoys playing tennis, piano and guitar, cooking, and spending time with his family.

Paul Dunn Chirorpractor

Paul Dunn – Chiropractor

(MChiro)

Paul Dunn (MChiro) is a registered chiropractor at St Andrew Chiropractic Clinic in Wells, Somerset. He came to chiropractic after more than twenty years as a patient himself — a long personal experience that shaped his belief in the value of precise, attentive treatment and his commitment to the same warm, careful approach he received as a patient.

He studied at McTimoney College of Chiropractic, a UK chiropractic school known for teaching a refined, low-force approach. McTimoney chiropractors use gentle, precise adjustments delivered with care and accuracy — a particularly considered technique well suited to patients of all ages and to anyone who prefers an unhurried, attentive approach to treatment.

Paul's approach centres on posture, biomechanics and functional movement, with a particular focus on pelvic stability and lower back function as the foundation of healthy movement throughout the body. He works gently and methodically, with attention to how the feet and lower limbs influence whole-body mechanics — helping patients move with greater ease, confidence and resilience.

Alongside his chiropractic work, Paul brings a distinctive perspective shaped by music and movement education. He holds a Master's degree in Musical Performance and has studied the Alexander Technique since 1995, giving him a particular understanding of how the body holds tension during repetitive or precise activity. He has a special interest in working with musicians, helping them stay comfortable through practice and performance.

Paul is a member of the McTimoney Chiropractic Association (MCA) and the Sacro-Occipital Technique Organisation Europe (SOTO).

Outside the clinic, Paul enjoys playing the piano, practising yoga, training at the gym and vegetable gardening. He lives near Wells with his partner and young son, and has an adult daughter studying at the University of Oxford.
